Safety has been the first and main concern for human, since the beginning of mankind. In 21st era, people usually like to go abroad, but there are some cities where you should avoid to go, due to security reasons. So here, I have compiled a list of 10 Most Dangerous Cities of World. Almost all cities in this list, are the cities along to developing countries of South America and Africa. Now, here you go:
Most Dangerous Cities of World:
10. Abidjan, Ivory Coast:
Abidjan is the main important hub and previous Capital of Ivory Coast. It is third largest French-speaking city and second most populous city in Western Africa, behind Lagos. This city is particularly known for its street hold-ups, break-ins into personal residents, Carjacking, and Car-theft. During holidays, crime ratio increases. Majority of crimes against foreigners are the one, that are non-violent like pickpocket, theft etc. In recent times, Ivory Coast and Abidjan, in particular, have gained cult status regarding Cyber-crimes and internet-based scams. In 2013, government took step to legislate Cyber-crime, but the process is on-going. Poor economic conditions are mainly responsible for this high crime ratio. Weapons are readily available and mobilized free.
9. Sana’a, Yemen:
At 9th spot, this city is the largest city and Capital of Yemen. It has been under a constant threat of Yemeni Al-Qaeda, which has a strong hold in this region for a long time. Due to political instability of this region, it has a well-established history of assassinations of top officials. There is also constant fight between Pro-US government and Islamists, which have a strong base in southern Yemen. On December 5, 2013 a serial suicide bombing and gun attacks, led to death of 56 peoples, at Defense Ministry. Masses are also against the President Abd-Rabbu Mansoor Hadi. The result of all of this, is chaos.
8. Karachi, Pakistan:
Karachi is the Economic Hub and former Capital of Pakistan. It is the main seaport of Pakistan. Security situation has been fragile in this city since 1980s, with some rehabilitation during General Pervez Musharraf’s regime. There is gang-war between Militant wings of different parties. Citizens have become habitual of the Street crimes. All gangs have up-to-date weaponry and they use it, at their will. There is also a high number of cases regarding gangsters demanding extortion money from Merchants and Business owners. Faith-based agitation and ethnic violence is also happening since few years. A number of military operations have been held in Karachi, since 1990s. But once, the operation completes, gang-wars start to happen again. One can only hope for peace in this city.
7. Nairobi, Kenya:
Nairobi is the Capital and largest city of Kenya. Since 1990s, this city has the rich crime history, nicknamed “nairobbery”. According to a survey by UN, Nairobi is one of the most insecure city of World, with its citizens earning a “C” status regarding security by UN. If that isn’t enough, one-third of the total population of Nairobi have experienced some sort of robbery. Many areas of city are highly noted of their burglaries, robberies and Carjacking incidents, thanks to minimum number of Police stations and poor security infrastructure. Al-Shabaab rebels are also causing trouble for an already-weakened government. In 2013, these militant did suicide bombing in a mall, causing the death of 67 people.
6. Caracas, Venezuela:
This city is in South America. Caracas or officially Santiago de Leon de Caracas, is the largest city and the capital of Venezuela. Due to poor economic environment, crime rate of Caracas is one of the highest in the world and second in Americas, after Ciudad Juarez. Murder rate is also one of the highest in the world. In 2014, Gallup stated that only 19% of its residents feel safe to walk alone at midnight. Sex trafficking and Kidnapping for ransom also occurs, by and large. Venezuela is the on the important route for Drug smuggling in US and Europe. Drugs such as Colombian Cocaine is smuggled to western world through this country. On top of all this, Venezuela of rated as one of the most corrupt country in this world with only 19% citizens have faith in the Police.
5. Ciudad Juarez, Mexico:
Another South-American entry! Ciudad Juarez or simply Juarez, is a city in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Mexico has been an important player in the illegal field of Drugs smuggling, and Juarez is its unofficial Drugs Capital. Drug Gangsters are usually very violent, and gang war is happening for a long time. Apart from Drugs, this city is also noted for a growing violence towards women. Since 90s, there are 377 reported femicides, and 400 missing women. Its murder rate is highest reported murder rate in whole world. With a highly corrupt Police, this city is the most dangerous city, outside the Middle-East and Africa.
4. Kabul, Afghanistan:
At fourth, Kabul is the Capital city of Afghanistan. Blood has shed in this country, since the Soviet Intervention. Consequently, US created and funded “Mujahideen” throughout the 80s (through Pakistan). After the 9/11, US attacked in Afghanistan, in search of Bin Laden. But the combined forces of US and NATO, couldn’t restore peace in this region. Famous quote about President Hamid Karzai is that “His regime is only limited to president house”. Suicide attacks on embassies and hotels have become a norm. With US withdrawing its troops at the end of 2014, one could only hope that peace will be restored, particularly, in this beautiful and historic city.
3. Baghdad, Iraq:
At third spot, it is Baghdad. Just like Afghanistan, political instability has been in Iraq, since a time ago. US, with its NATO allies, attacked Iraq due to suspicion of WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction), under the reign of Saddam Hussein. US military forces, control the situation to a very little extent. But on the other side, constant bombing from NATO and US forces almost destroyed all of Baghdad. All of city’s infrastructure had been destroyed. Since leaving of US forces from Iraq, suicide bombings have started to happen again as well as Car bombing, which occurs almost every other day. There is such a political instability in this country, that recently, an organization named ISIS proclaimed its chief as “Caliph”.
2. N’Djamena, Chad:
At second, N’Djamena is the capital and largest city of Chad. This city has a long history of violence. The Department of States warns US citizens to traveling in Chad. Carjacking and Kidnapping is common across all the country. N’Djamena has a high rate of murder, and kidnapping as well as carjacking at gunpoint. There is also reported presence of Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram in this region. During Sudan war, many rebels crossed border and resided in Chad, to cause proxy war and civil unrest. Police response is also very slow, majority of Police officers can’t speak English.
1. Mogadishu, Somalia:
Now topping our list, Mogadishu, locally known as Xamar, is the capital and the largest city of Somalia. The biggest threat in this city, and probably whole Somalia, is Sea Pirates. Pirates are also a major concern for outside world, because every other day, a Ship is hijacked by Pirates and a huge ransom is demanded. Many critics argue that economic and civil unrest led to the creation of these Pirates. Over the past eight months, Al-Shabaab (Islamists) and government are fighting with one another. All the UN and Other countries’ Embassies pulled out, after the collapse of government in 1991. Poverty is the main reason behind all this. Somalia is the one of the poorest countries in the world and Mogadishu is the Most Dangerous City to live in World.
