Not everyone wants to buy same router. Consider buying an ac-Router if you have ac-Standard wireless devices or you are getting some in near feature. If you don’t have ac-compatible devices, than think of investing in a good n-series router so you will get more out of your investment. Also look for a router that can work with the temperature environments of your place or where you are living. Overheating routers can be a headache and will disturb your network.

For me, fully customizable or tweak-able router is to turn an old PC into a router using pfSense or any other alternative OS. With that installed you can build a router that is super fast and secure than any other router available in the market. You can also enable something like caching so it can cache the copies for frequently accessed sites or updates and helps to make your internet fast and lower your monthly bills too. If you are not comfortable with all the custom-build router out of a PC, then you can install third-party firmware like DD-WRT or OpenWRT on your compatible router and get most out of it. Again, You can Pick and Buy anyone of these Best Wireless Routers by analyzing your networking needs.

I am looking for a good router for my family that will block inappropriate sites and allow for online gaming. We currently use the iBoss router but it slows down the gamers. Any advice?

    • These days all routers come with the ability to block or restrict web pages. You can even install DD-WRT (or any other open source firmware) on your router to get most out of it but DD-WRT is not for everyday users (you can easily find online tutorials on DD-WRT). For the best gaming router I recommend you to use wired connections when ever possible to reduce any latency. If you think your router is fully optimized then you should check your Internet Connection and contact your ISP. If you want to go DIY then try out PF-Sense to build the most hardcore router for gaming.
